11 月 26 日下午，香港大埔宏福苑發生近年罕見、提升至五級的嚴重火警。屋苑共有 8 座大廈，其中 7 座受火勢波及。
截至11月28日，死亡人數增至94人，包括一名消防員殉職。目前仍有200人以上被列為失蹤，但具體失聯人數尚待統計。

過去十多年，中國多數城市的PM2.5濃度下降，「優良天數」上升，空氣似乎在改善。但多項監測顯示，沿用十餘年的空氣質量標準已不足以反映當下污染。許多在中國標準下屬於「良」的天氣，若套用美國標準，實際已達「中度污染」。同時，在污染物結構變化下，部分城市PM2.5出現反彈，臭氧濃度也成為多地主要污染來源。標準滯後，使治理成效與公眾體感之間的差距擴大。
