  • Terrific podcast

I’m from Alabama in the sense that my grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, and cousins lived/live in Alabama. I came every summer and lived there on and off. This is a GREAT podcast for staying in touch with happenings in the state. Ike Morgan does terrific job of not offending anybody. I usually don’t say this as a compliment, but I do here since diverse people listen and no one should get poked in the eye for news. I recommend it for people in Alabama and for people far away who love Alab... more

  • Just right

Nice and short, hitting the most interesting stories, with wry humor instead of spin. Ike and I would probably agree on some things and disagree on others, which is a pretty good sign he's hitting it down the middle.

Reviewing the '26 Alabama Legislative session
Q: What were the key items or moments that stood out to you from Session 26, and what should people be watching next year?
Important moments included the leaked caucus audio affecting Speaker Ledbetter, the PSC reforms expanding to seven members, the creation of a new energy secretary, Boe's Law for dogs, and the more cautious approach to controversial issues like the lottery, with ongoing attention toward education funding and potential revenue needs in the coming four-year term.
Reviewing the '26 Alabama Legislative session
Q: What did you see this year in terms of bipartisan cooperation between Republicans and Democrats in Montgomery, and did that continue or were there frustrations?
The relationship did continue; there was mutual respect and mostly constructive disagreement rather than hostile confrontation, though there were notable frustrations and curveballs, such as the PSC issue and the closed primaries that added tension and slowed progress.
'Alabama Solution' makers on prisons and politics
Q: Why did you choose Alabama as the focus for this film and discussion?
We chose Alabama because the state represents a convergence of systemic issues in mass incarceration, leadership dynamics, and a unique activist ecosystem that could illuminate broader American challenges in prison reform.
Roy S. Johnson on prostate cancer and a life-saving new law
Q: Why is PSA testing important for high-risk groups, including African-American men?
PSA testing provides a baseline and early warning sign, which allows for timely intervention and better outcomes; it helps overcome distrust and empowers men to take control of their health with informed conversations with their doctors.
Roy S. Johnson on prostate cancer and a life-saving new law
Q: What would you say to someone who has just received a prostate cancer diagnosis?
Take a deep breath, seek multiple medical opinions, and understand that prostate cancer is highly treatable with early detection and proper guidance; stay focused on your family, health, and trusted doctors, and consider active surveillance if appropriate for your situation.
