I listen to a LOT of chess podcasts and this is the one I like least. There's a 'Holier Than Thou', dictatorial tone to it, especially from Jesse Kraai, that inceasingly gets on my wick. Things turned nasty for me when they basically spent an entire episode taking the mickey out of Neal Bruce; I honestly couldn't believe what I was hearing. I'm around 1100 elo and according to them I shouldn't be studying openings, playing blitz, etc etc; Guess what? I'm gonna do what gives me pleasure AND helps... more
Most of the time, I’m annoyed with the hosts because they seem to constantly and purposefully misunderstand each other’s points and talk in circles, which frustrates me as a listener. Feels like they’re arguing to win a point rather than trying to understand the other person’s position and perhaps come to a mutual understanding. And Jesse’s and David’s insistence that only OTB classical chess is real chess definitely has a “get off my lawn” vibe. But if you can get through that, there are some g... more
