  • Last of the Killer Bees

You have over time become my favorite Steelers Podcast. Loved that you acknowledged Chris Boswell’s contribution to our last Playoff win, along with his status being the only current Steeler player with claim to that fame.

I used to get upset when the “Killer Bee” status was only attributed to Ben, Brown and Bell.

What about the great Defensive lineman that Cam Heyward replaced?

BRETT KEISEL? He recovered Lamar Woodley’s forced fumble to seal the win in Super Bowl 43.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

T.J. Watt reborn?
Q: Should the Steelers carry four quarterbacks in 2026, and does history tell us it can actually work?
The host explains that carrying four quarterbacks is unlikely; the team would have to balance the roster with practice squad considerations and overall roster integrity, and while historical precedent exists, it is not viewed as a preferred path by the coaching staff.
Why all this mixing?
Q: What stood out to you about the OTA practices and the new coaching system?
The emphasis on positional versatility, faster tempo, and five distinct playbooks requiring players to learn multiple roles and constantly adjust, while staying communicative to avoid chaos.
Who is Patrick Queen?
Q: Today's J1Q comes from Dino who says, Hey DK, I'm not sure why people continue to argue the four quarterback issue. Isn't it clear as day? Does anyone really think Will Howard is going to outplay Mason Rudolph this summer?
The host explains that the core of the argument is about the balance between potential and proven performance, noting that while a second-year quarterback could rise, it's unlikely to supplant a veteran with NFL experience unless he proves it over the summer. The overall takeaway is that opportunities will determine who emerges as a starter, but the path to overtaking a veteran is challenging.
The hidden coordinator
Q: DK, doesn't it sound like come Labor Day, the least impressive of the young quarterbacks will develop a hangnail and get put on to IR?
The discussion explains there can be multiple plans for handling four quarterbacks, drawing on previous NFL experiences and outlining how teams often reshuffle roles, with Aller and Howard needing to prove they can contribute as backups while others wait for their opportunity.
The odd man out?
Q: Today's J1Q comes from Kevin. So basically DK, unless there's an injury, it's either Will Howard blows the Steelers away to steal the QB2 job, or he's getting traded for a day three pick then. What does that mean for the overall quarterback plan for 2026?
Dejan outlines that the plan centers on Rodgers as starter, Rudolph as backup, Aller as the third, with Howard getting reps to prove his value, while avoiding four quarterbacks and considering roster management implications; contingencies include injuries or unexpected developments that could shift roles.
