  • Last of the Killer Bees

You have over time become my favorite Steelers Podcast. Loved that you acknowledged Chris Boswell’s contribution to our last Playoff win, along with his status being the only current Steeler player with claim to that fame.

I used to get upset when the “Killer Bee” status was only attributed to Ben, Brown and Bell.

What about the great Defensive lineman that Cam Heyward replaced?

BRETT KEISEL? He recovered Lamar Woodley’s forced fumble to seal the win in Super Bowl 43.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Free agency!
Q: What are your thoughts on the Steelers' quarterback options and how aggressive should they be in pursuing a signal-caller this offseason?
The host endorses pursuing a real, paid quarterback rather than settling for a bargain, while also arguing for targeted investments at other positions and keeping options like Spencer Anderson in play. He acknowledges the market will be active and believes the Steelers should be aggressive within reason, aiming to upgrade the quarterback situation without overspending.
Receiver first!
Q: Today's J1Q comes from Rita, who says, with lots of exclamation points here, the Steelers will run the latest version of the West Coast Offensive Season. Our quarterbacks will be in shotgun for the majority of formations. So why not finally give Mason Rudolph the opportunity to run this new offense?
The host analyzes the quarterback options and offense fit, debating the merits of Rudolph and other QB prospects within a West Coast framework, while considering age, development, and system fit, and acknowledging that the decision would depend on the broader offensive scheme and talent around him.
Ty Simpson's loved?
Q: Jim's J1Q: Does Omar Khan's comment at the Combine about a cold‑weather quarterback imply Ty Simpson isn't viable for the Steelers?
Based on the host's discussion and Chris Halleck's reporting, there's no strong support for that interpretation; the analyst believes there may be more to Omar Khan's wording and he still sees potential fit in Simpson, especially given the Steelers' interest in a quarterback who can adapt to the division.
Not beholden to Rodgers
Q: DK, I keep hearing about possible overpayment from Malik Willis. What is overpaid for Willis?
The host explains that Willis could command a salary near the 30 million per year range, but such a deal would create a large guaranteed commitment and consume a significant portion of the cap, potentially hamstringing the roster. The point is to avoid an overpay and instead pursue a balanced approach, weighing potential upside against long-term roster health.
Any other QBs?
Q: Tony says, why if the Steelers already have two solid backups in Mason Rudolph and Will Howard, would they see a benefit in having a third backup?
The host explains that having a third quarterback could be about preparing for scenarios where a starter gets hurt or becomes unavailable, and about keeping competition and development within the room to identify a potential franchise quarterback. He outlines how the depth chart could evolve if a big-name starter is brought in or if a younger signal-caller emerges, emphasizing that the goal is to avoid locking into a single backup strategy and to keep options open.
