Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Matthew Biggs, The Peoples Gardener
Q: How did your career path lead you to Kew Gardens and later to broadcasting?
He describes starting from a council housing job, moving into parks and gardens through Pershore College, then securing a three-year diploma at Kew, which opened opportunities in broadcasting and plant-related media.
Matthew Biggs, The Peoples Gardener
Q: Matt, what was the connection to plants and gardens in your family background?
Biggs describes a childhood steeped in countryside, a mother who gardened, and early memories of growing vegetables and maintaining ponds, which planted the seeds of a lifelong passion for horticulture.
Hozelock
Q: Do you think drip and micro-irrigation will continue to evolve?
There has been steady evolution from basic timers to app-based and cloud controllers, but practicality and simplicity for users tend to drive adoption; modular, easy-to-use systems remain the most popular.
Hozelock
Q: Is micro-irrigation a better path for water efficiency?
Yes, because micro-irrigation targets water precisely where needed, reducing waste; it complements traditional watering by offering efficient options for pots, baskets, and specific garden areas.
Hozelock
Q: What first attracted you to Hozelock?
The opportunity to join a well-regarded British brand that parents spoke highly of, combined with a fresh start after redundancy and the chance to build a durable career in a growing company.
