I’m a pretty new convert to gardening and growing flowers, so this podcast has become a really helpful resource for me. I learn something new every episode, and the two presenters are very easy to listen to. Definitely one of my favourite podcasts.

The benefits of fertlizer with David Gale
Q: What is a fertilizer and what do plants fundamentally need?
A fertilizer is any substance that provides nutrients to plants. Plants require elements like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium; different formulations deliver these elements in varying forms, but the core idea is to supply essential nutrients to support growth.
Ripple Africa with Pam Haig
Q: What are the main environmental problems Ripple Africa focuses on in Malawi?
Deforestation emerged as a massive problem, driven by population growth and land pressure; Ripple Africa works with communities to protect remaining forests, empower bylaw enforcement, and promote sustainable practices like cook stoves and tree planting to provide long-term income and food security.
Ripple Africa with Pam Haig
Q: How did Ripple Africa begin and what need did you identify in Malawi?
Ripple Africa began when a couple from Buckingham bought a lodge in Malawi and decided to run the project properly by engaging volunteers through local schools and health centers, which led to establishing a UK charity in 2003 and expanding into forest conservation and community livelihoods.
Apples with MSOG's Claire Conway-Crapp
Q: What resources would you recommend for someone wanting to learn pruning or grafting?
Claire recommends getting involved with the Mid Shires Orchard Group's training, attending their graft and prune sessions on Saturdays, and considering winter grafting and pruning courses offered by MSOG.
Apples with MSOG's Claire Conway-Crapp
Q: Do you do tours of the Woughton Community Orchard, and how can people visit?
The Woughton Community Orchard is public and free to visit; there are scheduled volunteering sessions on the third Saturday of each month, and deliveries of Apple Day events associated with the Golden Jubilee are planned to focus on the Community Orchard.
