#334 A Little Jesus — JW Oliver
Q: What has been your approach to leadership and building culture across continents?
Leadership is about serving every level of the organization, from frontline staff to executives. We focus on consistency, empathy, and deliberate culture-building activities (the Grind, team events, and equality of treatment). We also prioritize training and structured onboarding to accelerate performance.
#334 A Little Jesus — JW Oliver
Q: How did you transition from a small business mindset to building a much larger, global operation?
The pivot came from a sense of purpose beyond profit. We started funding ministries with 51 percent of profits, built scalable centers in Zimbabwe and Costa Rica, and created an insourcing model that embeds trained professionals into dental practices, which allowed rapid growth while maintaining culture and quality.
#333 The Four Pillars — Mike Hesketh
Q: What role does the clinical lead play in a high-performing practice?
The clinical lead drives evidence-based dentistry, sets standards, manages audits, and ensures consistency across materials and procedures, independent of financial pressures.
#333 The Four Pillars — Mike Hesketh
Q: How do you approach branding and practice growth in Dartmoor vs Exeter?
Branding is treated as an ongoing evolution; Dartmoor required upgrading spaces and processes, while Exeter showed rapid growth through internal systems and a clear brand identity that emphasizes service and high standards.
#333 The Four Pillars — Mike Hesketh
Q: What are the four pillars you coach around in dental practices?
The four pillars are leadership, infrastructure, branding, and financial command and control; keeping these aligned is 80% of getting a practice to perform well.
