  • Great Podcast

If you’re an old(er) network engineer and you’ve had your head stuck in the sand for the past 10 years (like I have) this is a great way to catch up with the current state of programming.

I found David’s podcast advertised on the GNS3 website and I’ve enjoyed every one I’ve listened to so far and I’ve already learned a lot.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#594: How to Protect Your Network From Insecure IoT Devices
Q: Philip, can you explain OT and IoT and how they differ, especially in the context of risks to critical infrastructure?
OT refers to industrial control systems used in manufacturing and critical infrastructure; IoT covers connected devices like cameras and sensors. OT environments are safety- and reliability-focused, often resistant to patches, which makes securing them challenging and high-stakes, requiring segmentation and careful change management.
#594: How to Protect Your Network From Insecure IoT Devices
Q: So tell us a bit more about that ransomware attack for people who don't know.
The attacker gained access from the Internet, likely through weak credentials on an edge device, then used an IP camera as a pivot to spread ransomware via SMB to Windows systems after compromising the camera and other network devices.
#593: How to pass the CCNA exam (advice from two Cisco instructors)
Q: How do I know that I'm ready to take the CCNA exam?
There is no one-size-fits-all timeframe; use a mix of pre-exam checks, such as Cisco's certification guide, practice exams, and a hands-on lab to gauge readiness, and be honest about your weaknesses until you can confidently answer questions and perform labs.
#580: Cisco's first Quantum Switch: What it means for you
Q: What should practitioners do to engage with this technology now?
Engage with abstractions, follow Cisco and partner developments, study archival papers and blogs, attend webinars, and connect with the ecosystem through company resources and events.
#580: Cisco's first Quantum Switch: What it means for you
Q: How does the stack look, and where do the quantum components fit compared to TCP/IP?
There is a signaling layer to configure end-to-end quantum paths via a controller; there is no TCP/IP in the quantum plane, with a circuit-switch-style model and a potential future packet-switched variant.
