Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 507 - L.A. Story (1991)
Q: What do you think is totally true about Los Angeles that the film was making fun of?
The conversation points to everyday LA habits like accommodation requests at restaurants and food service quirks, which Mark notes as revealing how locals and outsiders perceive the city's consumer culture, while still enjoying the underlying truth in the satire.
Episode 476 - Almost Famous (2000)
Q: Do you think Stillwater felt like a real band, and does that authenticity matter?
Yes, authenticity matters greatly; having real musicians like Peter Frampton and Nancy Wilson on set helped coach the actors, making Stillwater feel like a believable, lived-in band.
Episode 476 - Almost Famous (2000)
Q: What drew you to Almost Famous as a subject for this episode?
Our love for the film's authentic portrayal of 1970s rock culture, Cameron Crowe's semi-autobiographical storytelling, and the way the movie blends coming-of-age themes with music history.
Episode 475 - Wedding Crashers (2005)
Q: What was the most fun part for you watching this film?
The most enjoyable parts were the montage and the subterfuge the leads use to crash weddings, plus Isla Fisher's energetic and unpredictable scenes that heighten the comedy while the romantic threads give it heart; the Will Ferrell cameo also stands out as a major crowd-pleaser that sharpened the movie's energy on rewatch.
Episode 488 - Duck Soup (1933)
Q: So what about Duck Soup makes it your favorite Duck Soup for you?
The guest explains that the tight, distilled comedy and the way the film balances verbal wit with physical gags, while still allowing room for character dynamics and standout bits, make it stand out as a peak example of the Marx Brothers' craft.
