  • Please tell us more about the industry

I just listened to the state of the craft industry 2025 but we need to hear more, both the good, bad and even the ugly.

    1. The demise of XRX and the interweave knitting and crochet have left a hole in the designer world. Opportunities, anyone?

    2. No mention of Ravelry as a great social media platform.

    3. The corporatization of Jimmy Beans, Berroco and MadelineTosh, Webs and others. Are these investors really engaged in the yarn industry or this something else? Our yarn shop owners are right... more

  • Interesting to know about the industry’s

I am listening about Joann’s finding for bankruptcy. It is going to be a loss, but I want to make one comment about their fabrics. As someone who sees garments, I find their fabrics to be very disappointing. It is great if you are a quilter or make costumes but it is impossible to find true fabric stores. I can shop online but would rather see the fabrics. By trying to be all things to all crafters, the quality is at a lower common denominator.

This show is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for me. I like Abby, I think she’s smart and inquisitive and asks good questions. But I have two complaints. One is the overall sound quality. I’ve been listening for years and it feels like it’s never improved much. With so many podcasts in my ears every week, this show stands out as feeling pretty amateur in terms of sound. The second and more substantive reason, is that so so so many of the interviews revolve around knitting and yarn. I don’t knit,... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode #307: Renae Bradley of Benzie Design
Q: What role does email marketing play in Benzie's growth, and how is it executed?
Email marketing is the number-one revenue channel; we use Clavio to automate product launches and newsletters, with a dedicated contractor managing the process to keep customers engaged and drive repeat purchases through our own site.
Episode #307: Renae Bradley of Benzie Design
Q: How did Aeolidia change your business, and why did you decide to invest in professional branding and a Shopify site?
Designing for my own brand was taking too long and not functioning as smoothly as I wanted; partnering with Aeolidia gave Benzie a cohesive logo and a robust, conversion-friendly website, freeing me to focus on growing the business rather than acting as the general contractor for the site.
Episode #307: Renae Bradley of Benzie Design
Q: What motivated you to pivot from selling finished felt items to selling the raw materials?
I realized there was a gap in the market for high-quality, visually appealing wool felt that customers could actually source easily, and selling the raw materials allowed others to create as well, expanding the customer base and tying back to the craft community.
Episode #306: Michelle Galletta of Kiriki Press
Q: How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The inspiration struck while driving with a friend, merging her past craft experiences with her newfound passion for embroidery.
Episode #306: Michelle Galletta of Kiriki Press
Q: What was it like in Florence?
Galletta describes the experience as transformative, highlighting the invaluable opportunity to study art history in person and enjoy a close-knit learning environment.
