As promised: expanded rambling thoughts regarding one of my favorite characters of all time: Miles Drentell.  I recorded this one while very tired, so I don't remember all the different things I veered off-topic about!

I saw a clip of Melissa Villaseñor talking about her post-SNL experience, and it got me thinking.

2 mostly unconnected concepts: will I ever perform in Australia, and are there ways for people to support my various creative endeavors?

A re-record of an episode I recorded 2 days earlier (walking through London) which proved unlistenable.  This is me talking about the same things in the quiet of my Earl's Court hotel room late at night.  Buckingham Palace & St James Park are the cen... more

  • Too long to brush my teeth to

I would need to brush my teeth about 7 times as long as normal in order to finish a typical episode. That said, as a non-acting individual myself, I enjoy learning about the thoughtful perspective Connor offers in this area of his expertise. Respectfully, I have moved on from listening while brushing my teeth to listening as I drift off to sleep, swaddled by a calm, introspective voice on a topic I am curious to know more about.

  • A podcast for actors & non-actors

I love Connor Ratliff’s work. The Acting Class is such a blast, and he offers the kind of good natured comedy and storytelling that really lifts my mood without feeling unsubstantial. Listen to this and go see his show wherever you can!

CRptAC is such a beautiful series of live shows, intimate recordings of live shows, and now supplemental podcasts. Like a “Citizen Kane” or “the Social Network” of a great teacher of acting for this time.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 99: Nepo Babies
Q: What are your thoughts on the Nepo Baby discourse in the industry?
I acknowledge there is truth to the idea that some people benefit from parents' or relatives' connections, but I resist treating Nepo Babies as a monolithic problem. There are many talented individuals who come from privilege yet earn their place through work and skill, while others may be unfairly advantaged. The term has become a lazy shorthand that oversimplifies complex dynamics and risks dismissing legitimate merit.
Ep 100: Dream Role / Dream Project
Q: Would you want to direct? How involved in the creative process would you like to be?
Yes, I'd want to be deeply involved, potentially directing or guiding the VO/visual style while still performing; the project would ideally be something I'm closely attached to in multiple capacities, including presenting and performing.
Ep 100: Dream Role / Dream Project
Q: Would you want to write it? Would you want it to be an original work or an adapted piece? Would you want to be the star or part of an ensemble?
I'd want a project that allows me to shape the world—ideally an original concept with a strong ensemble and room for improvisation and post-production polish to feel cinematic, not just improvised.
Ep 100: Dream Role / Dream Project
Q: If you had to pick what movie, TV show or role would be your dream job?
A recurring villain on a prestige show, a juicy, non-lead role that appears across multiple episodes and leaves a memorable impact, similar in vibe to Miles Drentell on 30 Something, with room to be both compelling and influential within the ensemble.
Ep 98: Dungeons & Dragons & Dialects
Q: Second question, have you ever had a role that required you to perform with an accent? Do you have any tips for doing one?
He discusses his long history with accents, early missteps, and later realization in the UK that the dialect landscape is vast and highly region-specific, making it daunting to master consistently, though he can manage in improv contexts.

Frequently Asked Questions About This Podcast

What is This Podcast about and what kind of topics does it cover?

The show's host uses a persona of an improv-focused acting class to explore acting, branding, and indie performance in a loose, candid style. Episode conversations cycle through career momentum, live shows and touring, meta-branding decisions, and behind-the-scenes takes on projects, from small roles to indie films and NFT talk. The tone tends toward self-deprecating humor, practical career philosophy, and thoughtful reflections on audience, accessibility, and the evolving landscape for independent performers. A standout trait is the creator's willingness to blur the line between class, performance, and personal philosophy, often inviting listener questions and participation across episodes.
