  • Augsburg #27

I heartily disagree with Pastor Flamme on his portrayal of the Sons of Solomon. Based on his invective, we shouldn’t pray the Psalter each day - much less morning and evening. Legalism perhaps?

By any chance, did he reach out to Pastor Fisk directly about his concerns FIRST? You know, brother to brother instead of relaying gossip. So disappointed!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Power and Primacy of the Pope, Part 7 (#60-67)
Q: Pastor, give us your first thoughts as it speaks about the case of necessity.
This extraordinary case underscores that baptism and absolution belong to the ordinary ministry, yet in extreme circumstances, the church recognizes that a layperson may perform absolution; however, this is not a norm and should not redefine the regular practice of ordained ministry.
Power and Primacy of the Pope, Part 4 (#22-31)
Q: How does Melanchthon argue that the keys belong to the church and not just to Peter or the Pope?
He demonstrates through multiple scriptures that the keys are given to the church as a whole, with Peter acting as a representative of the apostolic body, and that the church, not a single man, is entrusted with the ministry of the keys.
The Large Catechism: Sacrament of the Altar, Part 3
Q: So break that down for us.
The host explains that Luther uses the word commandment to describe the do this in remembrance of me, but the command is understood through the lens of faith—the Old Adam versus the New Adam—and is meant to invite, not coerce, the faithful to partake.
The Large Catechism: Sacrament of the Altar, Part 1
Q: What is the sacrament, what are its benefits, and who should receive it?
The sacrament is the true body and blood of Christ under the bread and wine, instituted by Christ and accessible to the faithful because of the Word, with its benefits including forgiveness of sins, strengthening of faith, and participation in the communion of the saints; it should be received by all baptized Christians who rightly believe and approach with a clear conscience.
The Large Catechism: Sacrament of the Altar, Part 1
Q: Dr. Lee, as we begin our study of the sacrament of the altar, how do you want to start?
We start by viewing the practice in its context and by tracing Luther's development from prior writings to the Large Catechism, highlighting the centrality of God's Word and the mandate of Christ as the foundation for understanding the sacrament.
