Managing Up with Emotional Intelligence With Melody Wilding
Q: What exactly is a 'me manual' and how should someone start building one?
A me manual is a concise guide to your working style, decision-making preferences, and scheduling needs; start by detailing information processing, logistics, and expectations for how you work best, then share it with your team and managers.
Managing Up with Emotional Intelligence With Melody Wilding
Q: How can you turn a one-on-one into a high-leverage moment rather than a status update session?
Begin by sharing the business outcomes of your work, then present a concrete plan and talking points that show how you'll drive measurable results and align with leadership priorities.
Managing Up with Emotional Intelligence With Melody Wilding
Q: What is the most effective way to approach a micromanager without triggering a defensive response?
Lead with the behavior you've observed, depersonalize it, and frame requests as achievable changes; use the 'would you be against this' phrasing to reduce pushback and invite collaboration.
Improve Your People Skills With Carolyn Goerner
Q: What advice do you have for leaders receiving feedback without taking it personally?
Acknowledge the normality of negative responses due to negativity bias, store positive feedback to counterbalance, and reframe criticism as actionable insights that aid growth rather than personal failings.
Improve Your People Skills With Carolyn Goerner
Q: How can introverts be engaged in conversations and ensure their perspectives are heard?
Give introverted colleagues time to think, provide heads-up prompts to prepare what they want to say, and create a warm-up process that invites their input without forcing immediate verbal responses.
