  • Voting NO on guests like Dr. Spence

I’ve been a regular listener of this podcast, but I’m cutting off the episode featuring Dr. Spence after 18 minutes. He just started explaining how the problem with social media is X/Twitter. I have no patience for that spin anymore. Buh-by, guys.

  • Fair-minded and deep analysis for actual learning

They get some very impressive guests. Actual business decision-makers and policy leaders, not pundits. Maynard and the Veriten guys are very fair with asking insightful questions and letting guests answer. If you want to actually learn about the industry this is a great resource.

  • Always Interesting and timely ideas and discussions

Kudos to a great podcast featuring interesting and timely discussions, usually with a strong connection to energy issues. Critical in a time where emotions have outrun facts and outcomes.

The perspective of sharing facts and not editorials is particularly refreshing and unfortunately is rare in todays comments from politicians and various issue advocates.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

"We’ll Try to Become the First AI-Native Oil and Gas Company" – Karl Hersvik, Aker BP
Q: How do you see AI and data platforms changing exploration and development in practice?
He explains the digital transformation across data platforms (Fabric for office data, Cognite's CDM for operations, and OSDU for subsurface), the knowledge graph approach, and the way agents operate across these platforms to support root-cause analysis and probabilistic data fusion for better decision making.
"We’ll Try to Become the First AI-Native Oil and Gas Company" – Karl Hersvik, Aker BP
Q: Talk to us about some of the innovative things happening at the company.
Karl Hersvik describes the Alliance model, the separation of data from processing, and the adoption of AI-native workflows that enable faster, more reliable exploration and development. He highlights standardized data models, a three-component alliance, and the use of agents to accelerate engineering tasks, with strong productivity gains and improved capital efficiency.
"EV Sales Acceleration Poses Downside Risk to Global Oil Demand" – Daan Struyven, Goldman Sachs
Q: Do you attribute this EV surge more to consumer gut choices driven by high gasoline prices, or to broader structural factors like price declines and policy support?
The increases appear to be driven by a sharp rise in gasoline prices and perceived future price risk, with policy and infrastructure factors also shaping the pace and regional differences; there is no single answer, but the observation is that high fuel costs boost EV adoption in the near term with longer-term effects depending on policy and technology progress.
"Two Conflicts In The Past Four Years… People Care About Energy Security" – Steven Kobos, Excelerate Energy
Q: With ongoing geopolitical tensions, what is your outlook for Hormuz, and how will that affect LNG flows?
We expect Hormuz to reopen and normalized flows to resume, with US volumes coming back online, which should stabilize markets and support ongoing LNG trade flows.
"Two Conflicts In The Past Four Years… People Care About Energy Security" – Steven Kobos, Excelerate Energy
Q: How do you compare the costs of floating facilities versus building onshore, especially at higher volumes?
Floating terminals offer faster deployment, lower upfront capital, and adaptability; for many markets, this translates to a faster path to affordability and energy security compared with large-scale onshore projects.
