  • Back in action

I work in energy/ utilities sector and despite the multitude of talking heads in this space, I don’t trust anybody except for the original energy gang and now the open circuit.

  • very meaty

This panel gives context and depth into the why and the how of specific energy transitions, from the technologies and costs of generation through transmission and distribution and navigating the juggernaut of regulations at the state, federal and private market levels. If you're interested in understanding things on a non-superficial level, this is your podcast.

  • Love this podcast

This is an easy to listen podcast, that goes DEEP! It’s dealing with the real issues in the energy transition. But it’s usually very fair, balanced, evidence based and then BOOM! Every once in a while a super angry rant from Jigar Shah! And I live for that.

  • Katherine will be missed

As a woman in the energy space I always looked forward to listening Katherine’s take on current events. She was a big draw for me to this podcast and will be deeply missed. I hope her replacement fills her shoes and brings a new perspective that rivals her positivity and insight. In the meantime best of luck to Katherine on her retirement.

  • Just the right mix

I just rediscovered you guys were back together (too bad for us that Katherine is leaving). From reading Stephen Lacey in his Greentech Media days, through The Energy Gang to this podcast, I’ve found just what I need to stay up to date for my job. And it’s way more fun!

Turning customer data into grid intelligence [partner content]
Q: What have been the biggest technological changes in this aggregation that have given you more insight into customer behavior?
The shift from monthly meter reads to 15-minute AMI data, the move toward high-resolution signaling without physical clamps, and the ongoing evolution to AMI 2.0 with live disaggregation on the meter enable real-time or near-real-time insights, allowing personalized interventions and proactive engagement with customers.
Turning customer data into grid intelligence [partner content]
Q: So Lou, this brings us to time of day rates. When did you start exploring variable pricing for customers and why?
We began with pilot programs and gradually moved to rolling out time-of-day pricing to hundreds of thousands of residential customers, focusing on making sure customers could be successful with the new rates. We emphasized accurate cost reflection and delivering information that empowers customers to understand and manage their energy use, supported by a partnership with Bidgely to put actionable data in customers' hands.
The new reality for data centers: no easy answers
Q: Holly, what are the biggest friction points in your development process right now?
Key frictions include utility capacity constraints, aligning with transmission and generation timelines, and ensuring projects qualify in interconnection studies, which has driven a focus on securing accredited capacity and planning around multi-year queues.
SpaceX’s IPO is an energy story
Q: Jigar, what was your reaction as you read through the S1 and its ambitious scope?
I highlighted the public-private history with NASA, the extraordinary cost reductions in launch, and the mismatch between the huge scale of the TAM and the actual current financials, all of which shape the investor narrative as a long-term strategic move rather than a short-term earnings story.
Crypto’s bare-knuckle politics come to climate
Q: Chris, what's the strategy here for using political campaigns to advance climate policy?
The strategy is to be real about how politics works, to build bipartisan support, and to deploy a concerted political operation that punishes opponents while backing allies, using lessons learned from crypto's campaign finance playbook.
