In this episode, Graeme introduces us to "The Servile State," by Hilaire Belloc. All I know is that living in the woods has always been attractive to me, and now Graeme introduces fishing? Hot diggity, look for me near the trees, boys!
In this episode, we learn about William of Ockham's ridiculous notion that our words don't mean anything. Then why am I even writing this, WILLIAM. WHY DO WE EVEN TALK. You can tell that I (A.J.) am a big fan of this theory.
Apparently Tolkien is a fabulous illustrator. Who knew? I've seriously looked up prints, and they are weirdly hard to find . . . but enchanting. Oh, this episode is about Christmas. Merry Christmas!

This is one of my favorite books. As an allegory, the story delivers many layers of a Christian’s walk through life. I have read this book at least 18 times and each time, I find another layer of thought. True, it’s not an easy read, but if you read the King James, you can handle it.
I enjoy listening to the book reviews, many of which I’ve read via my own classic education. While the hosts are knowledgeable and offer up interesting facts about authors and the literature, their Halloween show allowed their misogyny to come through, and it’s offensive.
A comment about Halloween being “an excuse to dress up as a sexy cat” in the pejorative implies at least one host’s contempt for women. Who cares what women wear, guy? Women don’t dress for you and they sure don’t choose their... more
A great pod! Really enjoy their book reviews and conversations. The hosts are entertaining and I always walk away learning something new. My only wish is that they might add more current applications to themes that are discussed in the book they review ie how is The Art of War used in business etc.
This show is awesome when talking about different classical things and stuff. I wanna know if you can make an episode about what is art? Is modern art getting out of hand? Is Phineas and Ferb art? Pls Answer
It's honestly the first podcast that I can't wait to get to the next episode of, and whose episodes I regularly re-listen to. I've started from the first episode, and now, at 15 or so in, and I'm consistently impressed by the humor, camaraderie, passion for subject, and clarity of thought throughout. So glad folks with this training, who are this personable, have made something that enriches me so well. Several episodes, like the one on The Common Topics, have already helped build skills that wi... more
