Every week there are new podcasts that help you know what’s happening in the city from food and events to politics. The episode on the impacts of gun violence was particularly moving. You know what you’re getting from each episode based on the title. I like it because it allows me to filter through episodes so I can focus on issues important to me.

I think Philly Cast has done a spectacular job of selecting a host. Trenae Nuri, your flexibility and relatability as a host is wonderful. I really appreciate the questions you ask as a way to get to the heart of: “what is this and why do I care” - from everything to the overspending by the Housing Authority to the best pizza’s in... more

Stop Complaining About Your Neighborhood: Make Change at These Organizations
Q: What are RCOs and how do they influence development and zoning decisions?
RCOs are neighborhood groups that seek to influence development and zoning decisions by organizing residents, attending meetings, and communicating with city officials; they can collaborate with developers to ensure the neighborhood's cultural and practical needs are considered.
‘Your City Could Be Better’: The Trick to Getting People To Volunteer — Presented By City Cast Philly
Q: What can listeners in other cities take away from this conversation to make their own city better?
The core takeaway is to view community exchanges as a flexible tool that can be adapted locally; start with a simple, verifiable exchange (like documenting litter and weighing it or offering time-for-service) and build toward broader governance support or partnerships with nonprofits and local businesses to sustain momentum.
How Your ZIP Code Determines 311 Response Times
Q: What practical steps could be taken to improve equality of service?
Publish accessible data, allocate resources to high-need areas for urgent, easily fixable problems (like abandoned cars) and standardize service levels across departments to ensure equal baseline outcomes.
How Your ZIP Code Determines 311 Response Times
Q: What are the two explanations the city representative gave for the differences you found?
They argued they don't discriminate by income and that apples-to-apples comparisons matter, but the data show differences even when comparing similar ticket types like potholes.
Coming Soon: The Museum of the Philadelphian
Q: Why create the Museum of the Philadelphian in a tiny space like 400 square feet?
To show that big ideas can live in small spaces and to make a cultural statement about Philadelphia's people and behavior, not just its landmarks, inviting both lifelong residents and newcomers to engage with the city's unique identity.
