A throwback show, daily radio style. Informative and encouraging with a delightfully dry sense of humor. Can’t recommend enough. Listen daily or binge a week at a time. Make this show the best thing in Christian audio.

  • Entertaining, relevant, and informative in seven-ish minutes

I started listening to this daily during Advent last year and have made it an ongoing part of my morning routine. It is such a great listen. The quick stories in an “on this day” format from across the centuries are often surprisingly relevant to the concerns of God’s people and His church today. And the weekend and mailbag shows are packed with questions (small and large) I’ve always wondered but never asked. Grateful to have had this recommended!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Monday, May 4, 2026
Q: Wondering when Holy Water was started in the Catholic Church and what was Luther's thoughts on the vampire killing spray.
Dan explains that holy water has ancient roots in Catholic practice and early church rites, with blessing of water and salt, and distinguishes its use as a symbolic reminder rather than a sacramental guarantee; he notes Luther was cautious—preserving some traditional rites for conscience-keepers while not fully endorsing long-standing practices that might verge on superstition.
Thursday, April 23, 2026
Q: Are there events or people in church history that could be remembered or taught about through food other than the obvious Lord's Supper?
Yes. The agape feast or love feast offers a model where meals become a shared ritual—blessing, serving, storytelling, hymn singing, and communal bonding—without class distinctions, illustrating how early Christians ate together to remember God's work and scripture, a practice later echoed by the Moravians and observed by John Wesley.
Monday, April 27, 2026
Q: What is the practical takeaway for someone who fears they might wander away spiritually?
The host emphasizes talking with a pastor and trusted friends, examining scripture such as the parable of the sower, and focusing on Christ's assurances rather than personal certainty alone.
Monday, April 27, 2026
Q: Terrell asks whether a baptized person can walk away from their faith and be lost, and how assurance should be understood.
Dan explains different traditions view on perseverance, noting that Augustine, Calvin, and Lutheran confessions address salvation as a gift kept by grace, while leaving room for pastoral guidance, assurance, and ongoing faith as responses to the gospel.
Tuesday, April 7, 2026
Q: Dr. Rick wondered what the connection was between Andrew Murray and the Dutch Reformed in South Africa and the Apartheid.
The discussion clarifies that Murray's influence was through his role in promoting missions and revivalism within the Dutch Reformed tradition, which interacted with South Africa's colonial church structures; however, the Belhar Confession later criticized apartheid as theologically incompatible with true Christian unity, showing a movement within the church toward rejecting racial segregation.
