  • Helpful

This podcast is helpful and explores topics I haven’t heard on other betrayal podcasts. The hosts share some great insights and I appreciate their wisdom and experience. My only suggestion (sorry!) is that Stephanie stop saying “I was thinking…” or “it made me think…” several times per episode.

I’m so grateful to you both for this work you are doing. During a time where I feel 10,000 emotions all at once, this podcast is so grounding for me. I’d love to see some Q&A sessions where we can ask some specific questions about our experiences!

Thank you for validating the minimization of the betrayed partners pain when the betrayer is “checking the boxes” on their recovery. Relational change can’t happen without curiosity, empathy, and honesty on both sides.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#155 Resolving the Push-Pull Dynamic of the Trauma Bond with Dr. Nima Rahmany
Q: What role does empathy play in healing, especially toward the self?
Empathy toward the self is foundational; it helps reframe shame, prevents self-punishment, and creates a regulator that allows the nervous system to move toward safety, which is essential for breaking the cycle of trauma bonding.
#155 Resolving the Push-Pull Dynamic of the Trauma Bond with Dr. Nima Rahmany
Q: How can a betrayed partner begin to regulate their nervous system when pain is intense?
By recognizing the nervous system's activation, practicing self-empathy for the younger parts of themselves, and using body-based regulation (breath, movement, and co-regulation with a safe partner) to move from sympathetic activation to ventral safety, which then allows clearer communication and healing.
#155 Resolving the Push-Pull Dynamic of the Trauma Bond with Dr. Nima Rahmany
Q: From your perspective, how would you describe trauma bonding?
Trauma bonding is a spectrum from extreme coercive dynamics to more subtle patterns where love bombing, devaluing, and discarding create cycles that keep partners tied to each other through the brain's reward system, until a breaking inciting incident prompts a shift toward healthier boundaries and safety.
#156 Anger After Betrayal — What It Really Means & How to Work With It with Matt Wenger, LPC, CSAT, CCPS
Q: Anger is often one of the first emotions that shows up after betrayal or disclosure—what is anger signaling in this context?
Anger signals that something matters and is being impacted; it marks where the hurt and value lie, and points to what needs attention and defense.
#147 We’re Both Grieving — But Not the Same Way: How Couples Navigate Grief Together After Betrayal
Q: What stage of grief do you feel like you're in right now?
This question opens up dialogue about the different stages of grief partners may be experiencing.
