Reviews

4.9 out of 5 stars from 36 ratings
  • Horrible Left wing bias - despite their denials

The review of Senator Tom Cotton’s book was one of the most condescending, smug and unprofessional book reviews I have ever encountered. Stating that the CCP is engaged in a strategy of economic warfare and coercion in order to ensure their future economic dominance is called a kookie, right wing conspiracy theory. Really?? I have heard more balanced discussions on NPR. These two hosts have lowered the level of journalism to a new low. Shame on the Asia Society.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 20: Linda Jaivin on the Cultural Revolution
Q: How did the Cultural Revolution change China's society's perceptions of sex and gender?
There was a strong historical prejudice against women in power, which persisted through the Cultural Revolution and even shaped the views of subsequent generations, influencing their perceptions of gender roles today.
Ep. 20: Linda Jaivin on the Cultural Revolution
Q: What do you hope to inform people about the Cultural Revolution that you feel is lacking in popular awareness?
I want to present the Cultural Revolution with enough narrative drive to engage general readers, especially high school students, and emphasize its significant impacts and lessons for understanding China and authoritarianism today.
Ep. 19: Steven Schwankert on the Titanic's Chinese Survivors
Q: What broader lesson can we take away from their story today, especially regarding immigration?
The story illustrates that they faced continuous challenges and how those obstacles, including immigration policies and racism, remain relevant in today's discussions.
Ep. 19: Steven Schwankert on the Titanic's Chinese Survivors
Q: What happens to these Chinese survivors when they get to Ellis Island?
They were not legally permitted into the country and spent an additional night on the Carpathia due to their status, before being escorted to their ship for further travel.
Ep. 19: Steven Schwankert on the Titanic's Chinese Survivors
Q: How did the Chinese passengers end up on board in the first place?
They were mostly from the Taishan region and were fair-paying passengers looking for work in the US, specifically in New York for the Donald Steamship Company.
