  • Interviewer Talks Too Much

Rule #1 of interviewing is to not talk more than your guest. Treat them like the expert. Yet the episodes I’ve listened to the host of this podcast interrupts and talks more than the expert guest while making many is the topics about his personal experience and wondering through word salad questions.

  • Interesting, relevant, and he speaks clearly, confidently and concisely which makes him enjoyable for listening. Normally not a big fan of podcasts as I find many hosts annoying or tedious. Heavy on useful content, succinct and an efficient use of my time! Thank you.

  • You Just Know

I've been promoting my book "The Intrepid Brotherhood" on podcasts for about a year now and the differences in program hosts are amazing. As a program guest, when you encounter someone who is deeply knowledgeable in the subject matter and thoroughly prepared to discuss it in depth, you can feel it from the outset. It gives you the greatest sense of relief when you realize that this person has taken your story and your purpose seriously and, at least to some degree, supports what you are trying... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Hourly Billing Is Nuts
Q: What is the 85% rule and how should buyers and sellers apply it in negotiations?
The 85% rule suggests presenting a fixed-price option that is 85% of a traditional hour-based estimate (e.g., 10,000 hours estimated becomes 18,500 as the fixed price). If the client accepts the fixed-price option, the seller assumes more risk but gains greater margin and predictability, while the client sees a clear downside risk and can compare risk profiles.
Hourly Billing Is Nuts
Q: How does value-based pricing work in practice, especially compared to traditional fixed bids or cost-plus pricing?
Value-based pricing starts by uncovering the client's desired outcomes and the value of those outcomes, then working backward to a price that is less than that value. The price dictates scope, not the other way around, and you can set larger margins that accommodate scope creep while delivering the desired outcomes.
Hourly Billing Is Nuts
Q: What are the five reasons the author identifies for why hourly billing doesn't work, and has the list changed since the book's publication?
The guest explains that the five reasons include artificial income ceilings, misaligned financial incentives between client and provider, price changes during longer projects harming trust, and productivity being punished under hourly models. The list has evolved with additional insights from talks and ongoing pricing experience, but the core ideas remain: value-based pricing allows higher margins and better client outcomes.
Sales Punks With Kyle Hegarty
Q: How do you think the role of salespeople needs to evolve today?
Salespeople need to become pathfinders who help buyers navigate their buying process, rather than just trying to sell their product or service.
Sales Punks With Kyle Hegarty
Q: What is the overall message of your new book, Sales Punks?
The message is that buyers have changed in a sales world, but salespeople haven't adapted to this change; we need to embrace rebellion to rewrite the rules of B2B sales.
