From great literature, mediocre reads, sex manuals, true crime and pulp fiction to memoirs of gay life, thousands of books were censored in Ireland. Were those ‘bad books’ indecent or obscene? Join Aoife as she reads like a smut-obsessed censor, looking for the rude bits in all kinds of books. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Reviewing books, and now plays and even magazines banned by Irish censors over the years, this podcast is a fun insight into the 20th Century Irish sensibilities, along with decent book reviews. An intelligent look at literature with more than a smattering of rudeness…topped with a gorgeous accent!!
This is a wonderful podcast - the finest literature (sometimes) is raked through to unearth the smut that got it banned. Aoife is a brilliant host making a subject that could be mere titillation something of academic note. Well worth a listen for her really funny asides and guest banter.
Love this podcast, clever and often smutty 🌷
What a brilliant podcast. Full of facts told in an amusing & clever way.
