  • Breast cancer ep

My 12 year old cat actually passed two weeks ago from cancer. It started in one of her mammary glands and spread down her left side. Sadly even though we did the surgery it wasn’t enough. The edges showed cancer cells and with the fact that her auto immune kicked in and her lungs started to essentially become like when we have pneumonia it caused us to put off a second surgery to remove the rest. Eventually she got worse and we discovered it was in her lymph nodes and was making its way through ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The “Elevator Butt” Style of Peeing
Q: What was the outcome when you tried behavior medications for the cat, and what does that imply?
The cat stopped urinating standing up after a month on a SNRI; this implies there may be a behavioral/neurological component, though results are anecdotal and require more study.
The “Elevator Butt” Style of Peeing
Q: What steps can owners take to manage this without medical intervention first?
Provide a high-sided litter box with easy entry, ensure adequate space, and place barriers to contain spray; monitor litter box size and consider enclosure height to prevent splashing.
The “Elevator Butt” Style of Peeing
Q: What exactly is the elevator butt behavior, and how does it manifest in litter boxes?
It's a posture where the cat keeps all four paws in the box but raises the hind end, causing urine to go over the edge rather than being fully contained, and it may be linked to both elimination and marking processes.
Vincent is Hooked on Kitty Krack — Help is on the Way!
Q: Here's another question, Andrey. Is Vincent at all overweight?
Vincent is not overweight; in fact, he is slightly underweight due to prior traumas, hoarding, and being mostly nocturnal, so the plan emphasizes careful, gradual feeding to avoid stressing him while increasing wet food intake.
What To Do About a Cat Who Pees Vertically Behind Himself?
Q: Do pheromones have a place in managing this problem?
Pheromones can help some cases but are not a universal fix; use them as part of a broader approach after proper cleaning and odor neutralization.
