Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

CASSINGLES: JEFF CAUDILL (GAMEFACE / LOW COAST) - ANYONE CAN WRITE A SONG
Q: How did your early musical influences shape the sound you pursued with Game Face?
The guest explains that early exposure to heavy metal sparked an attraction to punk's melody and honesty, and that pivotal live shows and local bands like 7 Seconds and Descendents steered him toward a melodic, fast, and dark punk sensibility that became foundational for his projects.
CASSINGLES: JON SNODGRASS (ARMCHAIR MARTIAN / DRAG THE RIVER) - AN ODE TO THE NUMBERS
Q: How did you and Chad and Bill and the others find yourselves together and start Drag the River?
I met Chad Rex while going to punk shows and working in a record store; he introduced me to a circle of musicians, and after playing open mics and trading tapes, Drag the River began in Fort Collins as a group of friends making songs together.
CASSINGLES: JON SNODGRASS (ARMCHAIR MARTIAN / DRAG THE RIVER) - AN ODE TO THE NUMBERS
Q: Take a sec. What were you like when you were a little— four or five years old?
I had a stuttering problem because I had too many thoughts in my brain, and I was an only child who loved listening to music and imagining big car rides with speakers blasting to feel the music.
CASSINGLES: TOSH THE DRUMMER (ALKALINE TRIO/LADY GAGA) - PATHWAY TO A HEARTBEAT
Q: Outside of your parents, who was one of your first mentors for music?
Thomas Bridgen from The Mars Volta was a pivotal early mentor, teaching from ages 11 to 16 and continuing to influence him through ongoing conversations and occasional gear loans for performances.
CASSINGLES: TOSH THE DRUMMER (ALKALINE TRIO/LADY GAGA) - PATHWAY TO A HEARTBEAT
Q: What were the three most significant turning points in your life?
Turning points included meeting close family members who supported his musical path, the experience of the last Jealous Rage show in high school that reframed his view of music, and the deep influence of his parents who exposed him to a wide musical spectrum from early on.
