I listen to a Carry on movie every night as I go to sleep so I love the majority of these movies. I was hoping this pod would give an insight into the making of the films in a little more depth. Also I don’t think there is a need to say that the movies are ’of their time’ every episode. Everyone knows going in that there is material some would say is a bit ‘suss’ but we all know that. I really wanted to like this pod but I also found the one host just agreed with everything the other host said r... more
A podcast highlight of the week
Presenters are good people who mean well but calling humour from earlier times “problematic” implies that we have superior morals now which is clearly not the case. Some modern comedy would totally shock people from earlier decades . Neither is wrong. So what if the movies use stereotypes - where do you think stereotypes come from??? Hope you leave out the moral judgement in future episodes.
I was worried this would be a half review, half take down of the series of films. Releaved to find it about the love for the films with a bit of chat about the issues that might arise given its genre and age. I have always loved the films and although there is obviously a lot of leering and innuendo, the women most often come out on top and the men look ridiculous. Really enjoying and recommend to fans x
It’s early doors I know. But I have full trust in Mike and Susan to provide us with an excellent podcast. The first, introductory, episode is already a solid 5 stars.
Update - What a ray of sunshine this podcast is on a Monday morning. If you want to start your week off right watch a fabulous carry on film on a Sunday night and then listen to Mike and Susan talk about it on a Monday morning, I promise you it’ll set you up with a good mood for the whole week.
