Our weedy teenage hero has to be pretty brave and inspirational to command the respect of his contemporaries. Which is unfortunate. But he does have one thing they don't have. A wooden sword.

Instead of sticking to the road like a normal person, we're leading a group of our peers through the wet and muddy rice paddies, confident that there definitely won't be any terrifying mud-based monsters waiting to attack.

Our fifteen year old protagonist has to choose between storming an enemy encampment or sneaking into an enemy encampment quietly, mostly because in fantasy made-up medieval times there wasn't the option to watch TikTok all day instead.

  • A lot of fun when Mark isn't kind of ruining it eating incessantly seemingly directly into the mic for half an hour as he does over and over again, making it unlistenable. STOP EATING IT'S HALF AN HOUR! It makes it impossible to concentrate on what Martin is saying.

  • Ruining my childhood

Love this podcast, two middle age men childishly rip into fighting fantasy books! They are ruining my childhood and making me angry as they pick holes in what we all know to be flawless, yes flawless works of literature where ‘you’ ‘me’ are the hero/ is the hero.

I’m not sure why I love it so much but it’s a joyful romp down memory Lane and has me in stitches every episode, as there is pure pleasure in hearing two grown men get really angry playing a game designed for children.

  • Podcast highlight of 2020

My new favourite podcast. Two middle aged guys reading 80’s children fantasy books. As the hosts Martyn and Mark advertise, it’s better than it sounds.

If you’ve ever read the Fighting Fantasy books, you will love this podcast. Even if you’ve never read the books, you’ll probably love it anyway.
