The episode Fried scones at the Ration Shed was heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. Must admit I have never made the pineapple pie, but I do remember baking a pineapple meringue tart upon discovering the recipe in my high school home ec cookbook (Day to Day Cookery). I recognised the Women’s Weekly cake book image in a second and listened to an episode for the nostalgia. I listened to more episodes which are all beautifully crafted. The history and storytelling is so well done, particularly the hard stories from Cherbourg(?).
This is fun to listen to and learn something along the way about Queensland’s food heritage. As someone who owns two of Miss Amy Schauer’s books, I’m all for solving the mysteries of how Qld’s food culture has evolved.
