《中华人民共和国会计法》于1985年首次颁发施行。1993年12月，经第八届全国人民代表大会常务委员会第五次会议修正，1999年10月，再次经第九届全国人民代表大会常务委员会第十二次会议修正，由国家主席下令公布，于2000年7月1日起施行。
会计法，有广义和狭义之分。广义的会计法是指国家权力机关和行政机关制定的各种会计法规性文件的总称，包括会计法律、会计行政法规、国家统一的会计制度、地方性会计法规等。狭义的会计法仅是指国家最高权力机关通过一定的立法程序，颁发施行的会计法律。《中华人民共和国会计法》就是狭义的会计法。
