  • Entertaining, informative, and just plain awesome

I’ve been a happy Topper customer for a few years and they are by far my favorite place to buy watches. Rob is a wealth of knowledge and hearing more details about the rationale behind the Topper collaborations and limited editions has been super cool. Great to hear from Russ and Zach too. Hi Zach from a fellow former Michigander.

These guys are epic! I pay a visit to Toppers a few times a month after work and it’s the best watch store in the Bay Area. Glad to hear them on the podcast to pass my time during the work week.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP61: 180 Years of Watchmaking in Glashütte feat. Stephen Kounas
Q: What makes the 180th anniversary edition special?
It combines a platinum case with a full Aventurine dial and a moon phase indicator, and it introduces a new caliber with extended power reserve, marking both technical progress and a nod to Glashütte's long history.
EP63: The Most Important Watch Measurement is Not What You Think
Q: Russ Caplan, why is this watch with a two-position movement and a pusher on the 11 o'clock side unusual for date setting?
Because the dual crown positions and the date pusher allow the wearer to set the date without fully pulling a crown, a feature that appears simple but is technically notable in certain Speedmaster variants, reflecting a design choice that blends tradition with practical usability.
EP71: The British Watchmaking Invasion
Q: What does the future hold for Jump Hour models at Fierce?
Fears plans to continue Jump Hour for now but is strategically considering diversification beyond jump powers, balancing tradition with growth, and expanding into sportier pieces while maintaining the brand's elegance and understated DNA.
EP71: The British Watchmaking Invasion
Q: What is the broader significance of British Watchmakers Day and the alliance for UK brands?
The event and alliance have grown into a major force for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and mutual support among more than 100 British watch brands, helping to elevate regional hubs like Bristol as centers of production and innovation.
EP71: The British Watchmaking Invasion
Q: How did the Celestial concept come to be, and what makes it distinctive within the Jump Hour family?
Celestial originated from a designer's push and a shared love of stars, incorporating Aventurine and Mother of Pearl to create a night-sky aesthetic; it preserves the Jump Hour mechanism while offering a fresh, legible read and a striking, elegant look that aligns with Fierce's DNA.
