  • Broadway 2 Main Street

Imagine being transported every week from the Rocky Mountains in Cedar Crest, New Mexico, to the Great White Way in New York City. Even though I have never been to NYC, I have learned quite a lot about the history and passion of Broadway, its stars and shows!

I truly enjoy B2MS. And I love sharing the program trivia with family and fellow theatre geeks. In fact, during the COVID pandemic, the archive of previous broadcasts brought me comfort at a challenging time. As a teacher, the occasional e... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The 2026 Tony Awards
Q: What were the logistical challenges in bringing Schmigadoon from stage to screen during the pandemic?
The production labeled as a TV project required moving to Vancouver with two-week hotel quarantines and extensive secrecy around the project, including virtual callbacks and remote casting, which ultimately shaped the final TV adaptation.
A Jewish Legacy
Q: How do we look at the Jewish legacy now in 2026 on Broadway?
Many interviewees remember a time when Jewish artists created paths through the cultural landscape, and today we see that influence echoed in shows that foreground inclusion and diverse storytelling. While some figures have passed away, the living memory continues through performances, revived works, and streaming access that lets new audiences discover these connections between tradition and innovation.
A Jewish Legacy
Q: At some point, actually rather a while ago, you turned your focus specifically to the Jewish legacy. What made you focus on this particular area of the American Musical?
Larry, the focus grew out of a long history working on Broadway's past, and Barbara Brilliant's nudge to explore why Jewish songwriters shaped so much of American musical culture. It felt inevitable given the depth of material, the archival gold, and the personal resonance of many artists who lived through those journeys. The project allowed us to connect historical context with contemporary understanding of inclusion and influence.
Steve Ross
Q: How do you find your songs?
Steve Ross mentions that he cherishes the lyrics and finds songs through his connection with words due to not initially having a big singing voice.
Al Hirschfeld
Q: How many Hirschfeld editions are in print now that people can get? You've done such a great job of bringing a lot of these illustrations between two covers and putting them out there.
There's quite a wealth of stuff, with notable books like The Hirschfeld Century and The American Theater as Seen by Hirschfeld being in print.
