  • Great podcast

Really good podcast, which usually helps me decide whether or not to buy a book on music.

Eric used to do another podcast which I really loved where he would breakdown a bands history, very insightful and good production values. Miss that!

  • The Podcast for Music Fans That Gets You in Deeper Than a Bookworm

Eric Senich gets music and draws out of great authors who also gets music. Senich has you “covered” driving deep into stories of bands, albums, and songs and giving you that backstage pass that’s truly behind the music, no VH-1 pun intended. Senich is a true music connoisseur and brings you from one end of the spectrum to another with bands such as Sisters of Mercy to Led Zeppelin, to The Doors, to Tom Petty, to KISS, to The Cure, and to his near and near Eddie Van Halen. I find myself “cha... more

[EP 384] Black Sabbath’s Dio Era: The Albums, Songs & Legacy - With Chris Sutton
Q: By the time Dehumanizer was released, how did the Dio era influence the band's sound, and why was the singer situation so fluid during that period?
Dehumanizer demonstrated that Dio-era sensibilities could still shape Sabbath's riffs, with Iommi's crunch returning and Dio's melodic instincts still influential, even as the band navigated lineup flux and debates about who should sing on which projects, highlighting the ongoing tension between identity and experimentation.
[EP 384] Black Sabbath’s Dio Era: The Albums, Songs & Legacy - With Chris Sutton
Q: What was the turning point that made it clear Dio-era could be a lasting and defining chapter for Sabbath, beyond just a temporary replacement?
Once Dio started jamming with the core members and their chemistry clicked, it became evident they had a unique synergy. Dio brought lyrical and melodic elements that complemented Iommi's guitar work, yielding a cohesive sound that felt both fresh and true to Sabbath's essence.
[EP 384] Black Sabbath’s Dio Era: The Albums, Songs & Legacy - With Chris Sutton
Q: In the book, you detail that burnout that was happening with Sabbath before Ozzy left. What happened, and what does your perspective say about the decision to bring in Dio?
The burnout and internal pressures were intense, with financial strains and personal problems pushing the band toward instability; Dio's arrival was seen as a way to sustain the band's momentum, and the production and lineup changes ultimately helped revive Sabbath, aligning more with the band's strengths while opening a new musical direction.
[EP 382] Ringo Starr: A Fab Life - With Tom Doyle
Q: When asked by an interviewer whether he considered Starr to be the best rock drummer in the world, Lennon had supposedly carped, Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles. How did that all start, and what is the real story?
Lennon did not say the line; it originated from a British comedian Jasper Carrott in the 1980s, and later various YouTube and radio sketches propagated the myth that Lennon had claimed it. The joke circulated as if Lennon said it, but Doyle explains the attribution is false and traces the joke's lineage through later media, not a direct Lennon quote.
[HIGHLIGHT] Rush’s 80s Synth Era: Genius or Sellout? - From EP 380
Q: Do you think that criticism was fair or misunderstood?
Richard James explains that, while some fans and critics preferred the earlier guitar-forward Rush, the synth era represented a genuine exploration of new textures and technologies, and the band's willingness to reinvent themselves was a conscious artistic choice rather than a reckless detour.
