江戸5代将軍綱吉の時代に、江戸城松の廊下で起こった刃傷沙汰を起こした赤穂藩主”浅野内匠頭”に対する一方的な裁定に、赤穂藩国家老”大石内蔵助”他46人の浪士が奮起した事件。
藩主が江戸刃傷事件を起こしたことに動揺する、国家老大石内蔵助。刃傷事件の真相解明と、お家再興を誓い、大仕事に乗り出す。

二度目の後醍醐天皇の蜂起により、再び討伐隊を率いることになった尊氏。足利の本家本筋ではない尊氏にとって、大きな見返りの展望もない討伐に出陣することに乗り気ではないところに、後醍醐天皇からの綸旨が届く。果たして尊氏は、御家人としての責務を全うするのか、あるいは新たな展望を見出すのか。衝撃の結末がそこにはありました。
