Love 💕 listening to your logic. I always look at reticulocyte count now. Had a case recently with TMA and pneumococcal infection where the retic ct was low! And Coombs +.(which could be explained by infection). We gave ECU for a few doses. Thanks again.

Ebens points out that immunohematology spans multiple specialties and is driven by the shared origin in blood-forming cells, leading to multidisciplinary care and variable management across centers, with a need for immunologists across pediatric and adult care.
5 Questions with Dr. Ebens
Q: Pediatric BMT seems to have stunning winds and heartbreaking losses. How do you manage moving between those extremes?
He describes maintaining perspective, grounding in family life, realistic and honest communication with patients and families, acknowledging the volatility of outcomes, celebrating big medical wins, and staying resilient by accepting the uncertainty inherent in transplant medicine.
5 Questions with Dr. Ebens
Q: As you look at what you do today and then look back at your medical education, what do you wish you would have learned more about?
Ebens emphasizes the importance of medicine being practiced not just as science but as a business, noting that training often underserves clinicians in areas like budgeting, reimbursement timelines, and financial aspects of care, and he would have benefited from more education in business and finance to better navigate new therapies.
