  • Love Kate, but she gets very overpowered

I really enjoy a lot of the podcast and almost always agree with Kate, but I find it disappointing how Kate will dilute her own opinions a lot as the conversations with the others go along and the others disagree strongly. I wish Kate would stick to her guns a bit more because I truly believe most listeners are willing her to because they agree with her. The latest episode was quite triggering. I have experience with adoption and I think the focus on “blood” being treated differently and that be... more

  • Disappointed

Was really excited to listen to this podcast as I love Kate and her journey with Rio & the kids. But found it a difficult listen because everyone was talking over her. Very overbearing cohosts which meant I was getting frustrated listening. Felt they kept trying to force their opinion into the conversation (even though their opinion was valid it came across too much!).

Going to go back to the beginning and try listen to earlier ones as reviews seem to be better.

  • Not keen on the new format

I really like Kate, I think she’s a brilliant mum and step mum, willing to learn and take ok board new ideas. I’m not keen on Cilla, I just feel she dominates conversations and is overly opinionated. She forces her points across and rarely listens to others.

  • One host dominates conversations

I find Cilla a bit grating, she says her opinions as though they are facts and sometimes it feels like the other women can’t get a word in.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dr Lalitaa Suglani: High Functioning Anxiety, ADHD And Blended Burnout
Q: How do you stop the feeling of guilt and overcompensation as a mom dealing with ADHD or anxiety?
Acknowledge the guilt as a signal from the nervous system, question its origin, and practice parts work to separate guilt from your identity, then choose small, doable self-care routines to recalibrate.
Legally Nik Is Back: Narcissists, Child Maintenance and Holidays
Q: How does CMS affect families planning new children with an ex who already pays CMS for a previous child?
CMS is calculated on gross income and often does not reflect new family costs; consider reassessment or adjusting arrangements through a lives-with order or mediation to safeguard the new family's finances while ensuring the child in question continues to receive support.
Legally Nik Is Back: Narcissists, Child Maintenance and Holidays
Q: What can be done about a line of intimidation like emailing a boss or making threats through staff?
Document everything, consider police involvement if coercive or threatening behavior occurs, and seek a trauma-informed lawyer to determine if a court order can address these behaviors and protect the parent and the children.
Legally Nik Is Back: Narcissists, Child Maintenance and Holidays
Q: From a legal perspective, where does the mother stand when dealing with a narcissistic ex who weaponizes the children?
The expert advises parallel parenting, avoiding attempted co-parenting with someone who has narcissistic traits, and obtaining a robust final order that clearly defines contact, holidays, and communication protocols, ideally with trauma-informed legal support.
@Jessrunsforsurvivors: Co-Parenting With A Narcissist
Q: What practical tips does she share for listeners currently dealing with similar situations?
She emphasizes gray rocking, minimal engagement, keeping a written timeline, and building a supportive community; she also encourages ongoing conversation with children and maintaining boundaries.
