  • Wow! Awesome resource for blended families

As a step-mom of 2 (and birth mom of 1), this podcast is not only cathartic but also gave me specific tactical ideas to implement in my own life. Love hearing women chat casually and specifically about the reality of blended families.

  • Love Kate, but she gets very overpowered

I really enjoy a lot of the podcast and almost always agree with Kate, but I find it disappointing how Kate will dilute her own opinions a lot as the conversations with the others go along and the others disagree strongly. I wish Kate would stick to her guns a bit more because I truly believe most listeners are willing her to because they agree with her. The latest episode was quite triggering. I have experience with adoption and I think the focus on “blood” being treated differently and that be... more

  • Disappointed

Was really excited to listen to this podcast as I love Kate and her journey with Rio & the kids. But found it a difficult listen because everyone was talking over her. Very overbearing cohosts which meant I was getting frustrated listening. Felt they kept trying to force their opinion into the conversation (even though their opinion was valid it came across too much!).

Going to go back to the beginning and try listen to earlier ones as reviews seem to be better.

  • Not keen on the new format

I really like Kate, I think she’s a brilliant mum and step mum, willing to learn and take ok board new ideas. I’m not keen on Cilla, I just feel she dominates conversations and is overly opinionated. She forces her points across and rarely listens to others.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Sarah-Jane Crawford: Adoption, Identity and Being A Stepmum
Q: How do you think the dilemma about the newborn affecting attention to the older child should be approached?
Publishers should address it through open communication, one-on-one time with the older child, and possibly counseling if needed to preserve equity and bond quality.
Natalie Lue: People Pleasing, Projection and Breaking the Cycle
Q: How can a step-mother avoid projecting insecurity onto her stepdaughter when she's caught between wanting to correct and wanting to be supportive?
Recognize that the impulse to correct often stems from past baggage, then pause to separate past triggers from the present moment. Use mindful, compassionate communication, give the child space to shine in their moments, and reframe corrections as supportive rather than punitive. Therapy or body-based practices can help connect to the present and heal the younger self that is still reacting.
Tate Ferdinand Is Back: How Does Your Step Child Really Feel?
Q: What would you tell other blended-family kids about navigating loyalty and showing love to stepparents?
Be honest about your feelings, talk things through with both parents, and understand that love can look different but still be genuine and important.
Tate Ferdinand Is Back: How Does Your Step Child Really Feel?
Q: How do you balance two households and the risk of hurting one parent when showing affection to the other?
We reinforce that love isn't a competition and that you can care for both parents in different ways, communicating openly and setting boundaries so no one feels left out.
Dr Lalitaa Suglani: High Functioning Anxiety, ADHD And Blended Burnout
Q: How do you stop the feeling of guilt and overcompensation as a mom dealing with ADHD or anxiety?
Acknowledge the guilt as a signal from the nervous system, question its origin, and practice parts work to separate guilt from your identity, then choose small, doable self-care routines to recalibrate.
