Empowering Women Through Jiu-Jitsu: Unbreakable Women's Grappling Camp
Q: What impact do you hope this camp has beyond the two days?
We aim to help other gyms grow their women's programs by sharing our methods, tools, and culture, so more women in the community feel welcome, confident, and connected through Jiu-Jitsu; we also emphasize ongoing relationships and potential girls' trips to deepen engagement.
Empowering Women Through Jiu-Jitsu: Unbreakable Women's Grappling Camp
Q: What motivated you to start the Unbreakable Women's Grappling Camp?
We wanted to create an accessible, community-focused camp for women in the DFW area that didn't require long travel or big financial commitments, inspired by successful camps we've attended elsewhere and driven by a desire to share our effective practices with other gyms.
Finding Your Mat Home ft. Rachel Yang
Q: If people want to connect with you, where can they find you?
Instagram is the best channel, specifically Rachel underscore BJJ, and there you can find her business pages and privates in New York City.
Finding Your Mat Home ft. Rachel Yang
Q: And having gone through that experience of testing out different gyms and finding the right fit, what advice would you give to someone looking for the right gym for them?
Look for a space where there are women training, hygiene and treatment feel right, and where the environment supports your goals as a female student and as a parent or professional; trust your intuition when something doesn't feel right.
You're Wanted Here: Brie Marks from Fight Med Collective
Q: What got you to start training Jiu Jitsu?
I started in karate and Muay Thai in Michigan, felt pushback about going to the ground, and after some prodding and a free women's class, I tried Jiu Jitsu and fell in love.
