  • Great podcast

This has been an outstanding podcast since the beginning Bernie and Derrick days.

I think Kevin Wheeler’s appearances need to change or be dropped. I don’t want an hour of “arrogant sports talk radio guy” yelling at me. I listen to this podcast for the opposite of that.

It gets really awkward when they argue and there’s just no need for it. Disagreements, no worries. But those episodes really stand out as different in a poor way, and usually it just results in a “Mark as Played” without listen... more

Love the podcast, Derrick. Long time listener. Your connections across baseball bring a fabulous variety of guests that are a treat. And your coverage of the team is excellent. Continues a long tradition of HOF-level coverage that is a big part of why the Cardinals have such a rich history. Thank you!

Q: How does WAR factor into decisions, especially for players from different eras like Babe Ruth or Johnny Bench?
WAR provides a framework by incorporating offense, defense, and baserunning, but you must account for era differences and how the game was played; you reverse-engineer how different contributions stack up across eras while acknowledging missing defensive data from older times.

Q: How do you approach voting for the Hall of Fame and MVP, and what informs your process?
I build a grid across many stats, consider defense and offense, and look for players who rank well across multiple categories; I also consult teammates, managers, and scouts to gauge a player's influence and consistency, balancing numbers with the feel of the game.
Cardinals' forecast calls for a bustling Winter Meetings
Q: Do you think the Hall of Fame discussions will have an emotional impact on votes?
Yes, emotional appeal seems to influence Hall of Fame candidacies significantly.
Cardinals' forecast calls for a bustling Winter Meetings
