  • Wonderful podcast, but caution with vibrating plates

Dr. Kay’s podcast is wonderful. I always look forward to it. I was enthusiastic about possibly purchasing a vibrating plate after her most recent episode . However when I looked it up online, it is counter indicated for anybody with reactive thrombocytosis/high platelet count. That condition is not as rare as you would think. Mine was a result of a splenectomy during an abdominal tumor surgery resection

many years ago So beware if you have any sort of hematologic condition.

  • Five star review

I love this podcast. I listened to every single five minute Friday, along with many of her others. I have even emailed her questions, and she was quick to respond. I wish she lived in Houston so that I could see her more regularly and have her do her treatments on me! Highly recommend listening.

  • A perfect respite from political podcasts!

I stumbled upon Dr.Kay’s podcast, and have been hooked for a few years. She is full of sound advice for anyone seeking to look young & beautiful (everyone, right?)

With her depth of expertise in everything from daily skin care to nutrition to plastic surgery, I always learn something new.

Though I’ve never met her, I trust what she says. Her voice is warm, appealing and caring. Always a balm to listen to weekly blasts.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

854: The Secret to Skin Resilience: Wound Healing, Sunburns, and Beta Glucan
Q: What are the practical skincare implications of beta-glucan for topical use and for after procedures like laser resurfacing or microneedling?
Topically, beta-glucan supports barrier integrity, hydration, and immune coordination, improving resilience and reducing recovery time after procedures. It can be used alongside ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and aloe, and has demonstrated potential in promoting wound healing and reducing post-procedure inflammation based on human studies and clinical anecdote.
854: The Secret to Skin Resilience: Wound Healing, Sunburns, and Beta Glucan
Q: So Dr. Strand, tell us all about beta-glucan, this ingredient that I think many in our industry have not heard much about.
Beta-glucan is a family of non-digestible polysaccharides that act as immune signals, primarily targeting the skin's innate immune system to improve barrier function, reduce inflammation, and speed repair. Its effectiveness depends on the molecular structure and receptor interactions, which can train the immune system for broader readiness beyond a single exposure.
844: The Year of the Mitochondria: Peptides, Gut Health, and Reversing the Aging Clock with Dr. Steven Murphy
Q: Which therapies or interventions show real promise for longevity beyond symptom relief?
The guest highlights mitochondrial-targeted peptides, GLP-1s for longevity-related benefits beyond weight loss, rapamycin in pulse regimens for aging, and emerging cellular programming/transcriptomics as future directions while warning about safety and regulation in new therapies.
844: The Year of the Mitochondria: Peptides, Gut Health, and Reversing the Aging Clock with Dr. Steven Murphy
Q: How would you describe the work that you do and how did it cross over into longevity medicine?
Dr. Murphy explains that longevity medicine emerged from a genetics-informed approach to disease risk, recognizing that aging is accelerated in those with underlying mitochondrial dysfunction and that baseline genomic and mitochondrial profiling can guide personalized interventions.
842: The Cure for Filler Fatigue: Enzymatic Bioremodeling with Ario Khoshbin
Q: What exactly are enzymatic bioremodelers and how do they work in the context of aesthetics?
They are combinations of naturally occurring enzymes that target old filler, scar tissue, and aged collagen, gradually breaking down undesirable tissue and stimulating natural regeneration of collagen and elastin to improve skin quality.
