  • Predictable lobbying by Utah banker's association. Most glaring is the lack of understanding of federal taxation (credit unions) and Utah (taxs for education). Mr. Blackwell should have questioned many of the hyperbolic statements of the lobbyist.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is this the End of the Chair-Driven Fed?
Q: What does the possibility of a diminished chair role mean for the Fed's credibility?
If the chair's voice is not as dominant, credibility could suffer unless the committee presents a coherent, transparent framework that markets understand, otherwise investors may perceive greater uncertainty about future policy paths.
Is this the End of the Chair-Driven Fed?
Q: How could Kevin Warsh's leadership style influence the committee and market interpretation of policy?
Warsh may push for more open or 'messier' meetings and a less prescriptive communications style, which could reduce the centralization of guidance and make policy outcomes appear more contingent on internal debates, potentially increasing market volatility in the near term.
Is this the End of the Chair-Driven Fed?
Q: For bankers listening, should they still be planning for any rate cut in the near term, or is the environment too uncertain?
Banks should plan with a cautious lens, recognizing the signaling in the policy language still suggests easing bias in some scenarios, but the economic data and inflation trajectory may delay actual cuts; the committee's divided view implies uncertainty about the timing and magnitude of any rate changes.
AI Is Coming for Bank Deposits
Q: What concrete steps can banks take today to defend deposits against AI-driven optimization by customers?
Move away from static rate sheets, empower frontline staff with flexible, decommoditized pricing options, implement enhanced withdrawal options, and invest in responsible AI governance to maintain trust while enabling dynamic, customer-specific offers.
AI Is Coming for Bank Deposits
Q: Why should bankers dive into AI now instead of waiting to see how things shake out?
AI is moving from a back-office optimization tool to a core driver of customer interaction and deposit decision-making. Banks that embrace hyper-personalization, dynamic pricing, and automation will stay relevant as customers have more options and information than ever before.
