There's something wrong with the plumbing in Cincinnati. Sewage is bubbling up in our basements and pouring into our waterways. Climate change is making it worse, and the powers that be can't seem to agree on how to fix it. Backed Up is a podcast that demystifies one of the most complex systems of public infrastructure — our sewers — and tells the stories of the people suffering under decades of m... more

As a communicator for public works, this podcast is not only an incredibly well-done piece of informative media, but is also an incredible template for helping to explain big things in a VERY accessible mode. The way they helped explain all of the history behind why these problems exist and all of the political/social complexities that allow them to persist is phenomenal. While focused on Cincinnati, this podcast is relevant across the country and I hope many, many more people listen to it.
This podcast was an entertaining deep dive into this confusing and wonky/technical space. Demonstrates the power of public media to shine an extended light on topics that elude easy synopsis (eg avoided by commercial outlets). Thank you from a now-informed neighbor!
I’m a civil engineer and have worked on the public and private side of CSO management on a consent decree CSO program for a major west coast city. This show is an honest portrayal of the challenges, technical and political, in that space. I really enjoyed hearing someone else describe my world!
