  • Great Pod, One Obvious Problem

The ensemble is very listenable and one of my favorites. All of the cohosts are solid and endearing and come off as genuinely good critics. Humble, thoughtful and down to earth.

Way to go Erik, Sophia, Jay, Josh and everyone else on the team.

Be that as it may, Ryan McFatFace is not only a bully but a poor leader. Somebody put this repulsive podcast personality on time-out. He sounds like a petulant child talking over his co-hosts. If it weren’t for the great ensemble, this podcast with Ryan m... more

  • You can’t be mean and stupid, pick a struggle

Why do all these tiers and retrospectives when it’s obvious the moderator and 2/3 of the panel haven’t watched the films and aren’t grading based on performance but on how angry they are that their favorite bro film lost.

The men are also too comfortable tearing down women of color and holding them to a different, much higher standard than vanilla white women.

For reals though, at least edit the dang audio. It’s a levels nightmare

  • Excellent podcast….most of the time.

Erik Anderson is probably one of the best that’s out there. He’s super smart, incredibly funny, and knows his stuff. Erik has assembled a very talented group of editors on the Awards Watch team. The podcasts are very entertaining and informative.

Not to pile on the Ryan McQuade criticism but, this is why I don’t give 5 stars to the podcast. Like many others have commented. Ryan makes every topic about himself and loves the sound of his own voice. There’s a difference between being passionate a... more

Not a serious podcast - they are shockingly unaware of their implicit racial bias.

  • Relentlessly Annoying

As an awards nut I listen to tons of awards podcasts in my free time. This one was suggested to me by the algorithm so I thought I’d give it a try. I don’t think I’ve heard pundits as obnoxious and relentlessly annoying as Ryan McQuade and Eric Anderson. I checked them out on twitter and they are just as terrible there as well. Also they need to check that they are consistently talking into their mics properly because the sound quality is terribly inconsistent. I gave the show to episodes, but ... more

Q: What drew you to The Piano as a Campion film, Nadia?
Nadia talks about the film's ability to subvert expectations of a period romance by centering on Ada's interior life, the power dynamics with the two men, and how the piano becomes a central, almost character-like element that carries the film's emotional and thematic weight.
Director Watch Ep. 162: 'Tenet' (Christopher Nolan, 2020) with Special Guest Diego Crespo
Q: Is Tenet better understood after multiple viewings, or does it aim to be accessible on first watch?

Director Watch Ep. 162: 'Tenet' (Christopher Nolan, 2020) with Special Guest Diego Crespo
Q: What do you like most about Nolan's approach to Tenet compared to Inception?
Diego discusses how Tenet shifts from explaining everything to trusting the audience to engage with complex ideas, leading to a more experiential, emotion-driven reaction rather than a purely explanatory one.
Director Watch Podcast Ep. 145 - 'Black Narcissus' (Powell and Pressburger, 1947) with Special Guest Dave Giannini
Q: Dave, where does this rank for you among the Powell and Pressburger films?
Dave places Black Narcissus among the top tier, highlighting its beauty and the impact of Deborah Kerr's performance, while acknowledging the film's problematic elements that complicate a simple ranking.
