  • Seriously?

Seriously? I just listened to yalls reporting on the Capitol Factory guy. I get it he just died, but seriously not one word on the controversy surrounding that company? Just pure glazing of a death merchant? Didn’t realize KUT was just synonymous with corporate propaganda.

  • Anxiety Inducing 80s Intro Music

I’m new to this show since it was merged with KUT News Now. I won’t be listening to it since I can’t get past the awful anxiety inducing intro music that sounds like an 80s hairband wrote for a crime show. Please. This is Austin. You can do better.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Competing interests for the Dog’s Head development
Q: How did the campaigns try to influence city council?
The campaigns used modern targeted advertising to reach specific demographics and engaged industry insiders and local residents, with some messages spreading through statewide networks and even tapping out-of-area supporters.
Competing interests for the Dog’s Head development
Q: So can you remind us why this development has sparked so much controversy to begin with?
Andrea Ball explains it's a very large development with minimal early community input, raising concerns about how it would change the east side of Austin and whether appropriate environmental and social considerations were explored.
Activists call for Garza to prosecute officers in teen’s shooting death
Q: How could a Midland victory affect Austin ISD's finances and its recapture payments?
A Midland win could prompt a broader reevaluation of recapture, potentially reducing Austin ISD's mandatory payments and altering the balance of local control over district funding.
Activists call for Garza to prosecute officers in teen’s shooting death
Q: What is Midland ISD arguing in its lawsuit against the state over the Robin Hood financing system, and why is Midland a focal point?
Midland ISD argues that post-2019 changes to school funding reduced local control and gave more power to the state, which disadvantages districts that rely on local revenue; the case centers on whether the state's new framework can equitably fund districts like Midland and Austin ISD.
UT president unexpectedly denies tenure for border surveillance scholar
Q: Why is the denial considered atypical by experts?
Experts note that shared governance and external reviews usually align with tenure recommendations, so overturning such a strong, multi-layered endorsement without clear reasoning is not common.
