  • What nobody taught you in art school.

This is a really great series, focused on all the nerdy nuts and bolts of trying to have a career as an artist. But from a host who has a sense of humor and deep industry knowledge.

  • Cancer episode and more

While Paddy’s podcast is always informative, I want to say, having just been diagnosed with breast cancer, the cancer episode was especially timely and supportive. Best take away quote, “Mychart is now my new social media.” Recommend this podcast and episode.

  • Residency, Residency, Residency

Mostly what this seems to be about. The directness and honesty are good, but if residencies are not your jam it gets tiresome. A broader scope would be helpful.

  • Really great practice advice for artists

Just listened to several episodes and learned so much about residencies, grants, the benefits of networking just within these episodes. Really appreciate what Paddy is doing with Netvvrk.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EPS 112: Four Years In, Two Years Out: How Three Artists Built an Art Space
Q: To start off, can you tell people a little bit about your practice?
Constance describes her journey returning to art later in life, focusing on clay as her primary medium, and developing through 20+ years of experience including installation work and mixed-media collage.
EP 108: Will the A Corp Change the World?
Q: How do you see health care and insurance fitting into the A-Corp model, especially at the state level?
The plan is to work with insurers to create group health plans for Artist Corporations, starting in states like Colorado where the law is being shaped. If enough A-Corps exist, insurers will be motivated to tailor group plans, moving away from individual coverage and toward scalable, affordable options for creative workers.
EP 108: Will the A Corp Change the World?
Q: What are the practical benefits for collectives and groups under the A-Corp?
For groups, the A-Corp provides clear ownership shares, predefined separation agreements, and a framework to manage transitions when someone leaves. It also enables more transparent revenue sharing, supports collective investment, and sets the stage for benefits like healthcare and potential philanthropic funding without fiscal sponsorship.
EP 108: Will the A Corp Change the World?
Q: Yancey, can you explain what the A-Corp is and why it matters for artists?
The A-Corp is a designed successor to traditional LLC structures, tailored for creative people. It protects the artist's mission, enables clear ownership and voting rules for groups, and can support benefits like healthcare through group plans. The goal is to make the legal form simpler, more legible to institutions, and capable of sustaining collaborative work over the long term.
Bonus Episode: How to Transform Your Grant Applications with Kimberlee Koym-Murteira
Q: How did you start using the community?
Kimberlee detailed her experience connecting with others, getting feedback, and gaining inspiration from fellow artists.
