Art & Labor chronicles the stories of social justice organizing within the arts. We hope to center the human cost of the “art world” and advocate for fair labor practices for artists, assistants, fabricators, docents, interns, registrars, janitors, writers, editors, curators, guards, performers, and anyone doing work for art & cultural institutions.

This show has great potential but the presenters get caught in vortex of anxiety about whether they are leftist enough. It’s a occasionally a relevant question but don’t let it get in the way of actual thinking.

It is a pleasure to hear these very human voices discuss the inhuman nature of navigating urban living as an artist while trying to avoid excessive taxation of the body and soul.

Please feel free to hold off on releasing episodes when there's slow news, or if you're building towards a broad topic! You have a cult following at this point, we will wait for you.

The conversation suggests a need for solidarity among artists and cooperative models that could allow for a worker-controlled internet that prioritizes community and independent culture.
Interview with Concetta Abbate
Q: What prompted you to become a death doula?
Part of it was that during COVID, I started getting asked to do music for a lot of funerals and memorial services, realizing how unprepared we were to have conversations around death.
