Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars from 16 ratings
  • Revealing look at the real Appalachia

Amanda finds many amazing musicians and other artists to interview, and their stories show that there is so much more to the region than the many stereotypes led us to believe (even the ones we didn't know we were prey to, which is all the more satisfying to uncover). She is a solid interviewer and has great subject matter and guests to work with.

Adria Accomando
Q: What was the inspiration behind your book, Violets Grey?
The inspiration came from my childhood experiences with UFO sightings, particularly in the Hudson Valley, where there were significant UFO sightings reported.
Adria Accomando
Q: Do either of your parents are either of them writers or artists of any kind?
Neither of them are writers, but my father is extremely artistic. He builds things, fixes things, remakes things, repurposes things. So there's definitely a lot of artistry in my family.
Adria Accomando
Q: Where did you grow up?
I grew up until I was about 15 in upstate New York in the Hudson Valley, and then moved to North Carolina and then eventually Florida, which is where I graduated high school and went to college initially.
Salem Langoski and Jason Long
Q: What was the general idea behind the song?
It's about recognizing that although times may be hard, it's important to remember things have been worse in history.
Salem Langoski and Jason Long
Q: Did you have any bands at that time?
I didn't really start writing until it was probably right after high school.
