  • Love hate relationship

I genuinely love this show and have listened since the original days, however if there was one thing that I would change is the constant annoying keyboard tapping sounds in the background, whenever one of the hosts is talking, you can hear another host furiously tapping away on their keyboard and it’s starting to verge on listening to ASMR podcast, please for the love of God stop this it is the only thing that I could find wrong with this show but now that I have noticed it it drives me insane

  • Too Long

The content is very good but it can do with some editing. Episodes are the length of a feature movie. Even at 1.5 speed (which I wish not to do) it’s long. I often mean to listen but don’t want to commit 1:45 hrs.

  • Pretty Bad

Started off good, then Jason Howell showed up and brought the “TWiT” vibe, which is not a good thing and lead to me stopping my Patreon support. Now there’s too many hosts talking over each other, too many low-quality ads, too much off-topic conversation, poorly researched news (you can hear Jason stumbling through the website as he records) and Jason and Ron spend way too much of their time telling you how to give them more money or buy merch. I get it, they need income but they’re doing it in ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Android's Intelligence Era - A Conversation with Sameer Samat
Q: What is the role of developers in enabling Gemini's app automation, and how will app actions and APIs evolve?
The guest explains that Gemini can navigate apps as a baseline capability without developer action, but deeper integration via app actions and APIs will yield better performance and two-way conversations with apps; Google intends to make it a good business for developers to participate and evolve the ecosystem.
Android's Intelligence Era - A Conversation with Sameer Samat
Q: How does Gemini handle user consent and liability in agentic actions?
He emphasizes user control through explicit confirmation steps, follow-up questions for unclear instructions, and a built-in confirmation screen before purchases; liability is discussed as an open debate with multiple perspectives, acknowledging that both users and developers share responsibility.
Android's Intelligence Era - A Conversation with Sameer Samat
Q: Why is this moment being described as an inflection point for Android moving from an operating system to an intelligence system?
Samat explains that the shift reflects a fundamental redesign of how users interact with devices, moving from micromanaging a system through taps to expressing intent and having the device execute tasks, which requires rebuilding many parts of the platform over a multi-year horizon.
Inside the Android Bench & AI LLM Rankings with Matthew McCullough from Google
Q: How does Android Bench guard against models gaming the system by training on the test data?
The team described an approach where the benchmark is open and auditable, with plans for multiple evaluation waves (including potential closed evals in 2.0) and the ability for external parties to reproduce results with the provided harness and tests, reducing the risk of manipulation and increasing trust.
Inside the Android Bench & AI LLM Rankings with Matthew McCullough from Google
Q: How were Android developers making decisions about which AI model to use before Android Bench existed, and what problem did that create?
Developers tended to reach for the model that was readily available or personally familiar, which didn't necessarily align with the best fit for Android development or the evolving needs of AI-enabled apps. Android Bench was created to provide a rigorous, data-driven way to evaluate models against Android-specific tasks and best practices.
