American Shadows is a bi-weekly podcast from iHeartRadio and Aaron Mahnke’s Grim & Mild. The show focuses on the darker stories from American history: the people, places, and things that are hidden and forgotten in the shadows. From better-known tales like the conspiracy to steal Lincoln’s body, to less-known stories, like the rainmaker who flooded San Diego. Join host Lauren Vogelbaum as she spans two centuries of omitted lore from our country’s history books.

So there’s a definite political undertone to this. I just finished “seeds of change” and pretty much every episode to there talks politically in some way. I have more of an issue with the way she says it more than the fact she actually says it. Like she says something in the beginning about women being “the inferior sex” which I feel like is so poorly worded. Instead make it more of a history thing like “understand that back then women were not seen as equals” or when she says “hattfield is luck... more
Love the show, but nearly every episode has glaring mispronunciations of common words. For a Grim & Mild production, I expect a better quality of care and editing. Aaron set a standard that isn't being followed.
This is a great podcast. Always interesting and informative. Isn’t bi-weekly defined as twice a week ? Shouldn’t your podcast be bi-monthly( every two weeks)?
Love all his shows, so much research and work and I appreciate it!
I really like the sister show to this podcast and decided to give it a try. I really found this one to be disappointing because it feels like there is a political angle to just about every historical things that they bring up. Instead of focusing on Marie Curie‘s amazing contributions to science, they kind of boil her down to being just a female scientist who was put down because she’s a woman. I was really disappointed with this one.
