  • Bigotry won the battle, but the tide of war turned toward Justice

Thank you, BBC for airing this magnificent story. I was a freshman in high school in a different state and knew nothing of the story in 1969. These 14 men did not have any idea of the consequences of what would happen to them. So their standing up for justice was an act of inherent courage because of the, wonderful people that they were and are. This is an important story in the history of relationships between bigoted white America and black Americans, full of heart, soul, courage, and wisdom b... more

  • The Black 14

I was in high school several states away from Wyoming when this occurred but never knew anything about it—I did, however, know about the Black arms raised at the Mexico City Olympics and the civil rights demonstrations of that time. Thanks for sharing this event; I feel so sad for what these brave men experienced, based solely on skin color—and this is still occurring today 60+ years later. These 4 episodes were well done!

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Curse of County Mayo: Ep 2
Q: What did it mean for you to be on the senior team?
It was something very special. I was nervous, naturally. To go out there in front of 70, 80,000 people.
Special: Curses and superstitions
Q: How would a sports psychologist approach the Mayo team regarding the curse?
The psychologist would dispel the myth of the curse and focus on controlling factors related to performance and psychological preparedness.
Special: Curses and superstitions
Q: Why do people believe in curses in sports?
Curses provide explanations for failures that fans and players cannot otherwise rationalize, giving them a sense of control over unpredictable outcomes.
Chasing Mountains: Ep 4
Q: If you didn't actually reach the top of the summit, how close did you get?
At the time of climbing, the weather was really bad. There was a snowstorm. From what I recall in those conditions, I was five to ten metres away.
