Finding your tribe in Dubai w/ Women Who Thrive (Sue & Achasah)
Q: What advice would you give to someone nervous about joining a new community in a city like Dubai?
Take the first step and try it. Don't be afraid to show up as you are; reach out via DM, and you'll be welcomed by the founders at the start of an event. Small steps build confidence and help you discover new connections.
Finding your tribe in Dubai w/ Women Who Thrive (Sue & Achasah)
Q: What changed as you grew from monthly events to a much more active calendar, and how did you maintain authenticity?
We kept things real and admitted when we didn't have all the answers. We learned from mistakes, prioritized genuine connection over perfection, and built a leadership style that invites collaboration and avoids 'branding' the community over its people.
Finding your tribe in Dubai w/ Women Who Thrive (Sue & Achasah)
Q: Can you tell us how Women Who Thrive started and what problem you were aiming to solve initially?
We started unintentionally; we noticed a need for deeper, more authentic conversations among women after COVID, especially around business and side hustles. Rather than focusing solely on entrepreneurship, we broadened the scope to support women in all aspects of well-being, which gradually led to more frequent events and a larger community.
How to Invest in Businesses: What Investors Look For, Founder Mistakes & Hard Truths W/ Saba Yussouf
Q: What is deal flow and why is it important?
Deal flow is the stream of investment opportunities coming to you; strong deal flow means higher quality opportunities, whereas poor deal flow leads to weak investments; building a network and leveraging platforms can improve this.
How to Invest in Businesses: What Investors Look For, Founder Mistakes & Hard Truths W/ Saba Yussouf
Q: How do you evaluate a founder in five minutes?
Ask about the founder's story, what they've built and how long it took, the systems and processes in place, what they need the funds for, and what they'll do if the investor doesn't participate, to gauge agency and crisis-thinking.
