  • Really fun hang out with tech nerds

Great audio and video quality. The Twit network has a whole stable of shows about tech that range from tight and scripted to extended conversations. My favorite might MacBreak Weekly, a wide-ranging discussion between well-informed and courteous good friends but All About Android is a completely different group of good friends all obsessed with Android phones and that one is great too. The shows are especially nice to watch live on twit.tv for some company but subscribing to the podcast is handy... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Hands-On Tech 267: Wireless Access Points vs. Mesh
Q: George, what should I consider when choosing between a mesh system and wired access points for a multi-floor home?
The short answer is that wired access points with Ethernet backhaul generally outperform mesh in throughput, latency, and roaming, and they offer longer-term viability with local control and fewer cloud dependencies. If you can run CAT6/6A cables and deploy PoE, you should pull that cable and set up a small number of business-class APs for a network that will last many years.
Home Theater Geeks 531: Center Speaker Recommendation
Q: What center speaker should I buy to match my front speakers and improve dialogue intelligibility?
The recommended center is the B&W HTM6 S3 to match the front B&Ws, and you should position it so it sits low yet not blocking the screen, with the TV raised slightly if needed. Also consider rearranging the surrounds to proper side/behind placement for a better dialogue and immersion balance.
This Week in Space 211: Oysters in Space
Q: What was the educational impact of involving Harrisburg University students?
Students conducted most of the engineering work, gained hands-on experience with space hardware design and testing, and developed soft skills like presenting to stakeholders and working across disciplines, which the guest views as an important part of training future mission managers.
This Week in Space 211: Oysters in Space
Q: Why oysters and how do they fit into bioregenerative life support?
Oysters are valued for their water-filtration capabilities and potential to contribute to regenerative life support by recirculating nutrients and supporting oxygen production, with a long-term aim of integrating aquatic organisms into a closed-loop habitat to reduce mechanical filtration needs.
This Week in Space 211: Oysters in Space
Q: What is the next step for the Oyster Project after the initial year-long study?
The next step is to pursue funding and secure a flight demonstration, potentially on a commercial platform or the ISS, and to refine or adapt the system as needed for space deployment while continuing collaborations with universities.
