  • Nothing but Americana

I used to listen to Twit, then I stopped listening to Twit when it became more focused on social issues than actual technology. Thought I would give it a try again only to hear Leo rant about it being okay to use AI to surveil and kill people once they aren't American. He also thinks that you have to have a big military in order to scare off those countries that want to harm America. Even when his cohosts pointed out that aside from Russia, the US is the only country to have actually invaded an... more

  • Almost Unlistenable

This is supposed to be a tech podcast, but all I hear are journalists talking about Facebook, AI and whatever the conversational trend is. It’s as good as the National Enquirer but from technology journalists. Too much politics, opinions, speculative, subjective, etc.

You won’t learn anything from this show other than talking heads trying to entertain. I’d really like a show about consumer and enterprise technology from people in the field that play a role in advancing the field or swim in that... more

  • Overall it's a good, casual and informative podcast. I love Paris & Jeff!

Leo STOP interrupting everyone constantly. It's cringy and interrupts the flow. You dominate the conversation instead of facilitating.

I like the long format but 3hrs max.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Intelligent Machines 875: Florida Dad
Q: What do you think about the government action blocking Mythos and Fable?
The guest explains the action as a political decision wrapped in security concerns, argues it could have broad negative implications for U.S. AI leadership, and emphasizes that security testing and responsible disclosure are ongoing practices that shouldn't stop innovation.
Tech News Weekly 444: The End of the PlayStation Disc
Q: Are you a console or PC gamer? Have you purchased physical gaming discs in the past?
Abrar explains his limited personal gaming experience, noting a switch to digital formats and reflecting on nostalgia versus practicality, acknowledging that digital distribution is dominant while recognizing a cultural attachment to physical media.
Hands-On Tech 274: Smart Home Recommendations
Q: Marcus asks how to shop for smart home devices without getting burned and whether Matter and Thread are just marketing terms or real fixes.
The host explains that Matter provides a universal language for devices to communicate, Thread offers a robust, low-power networking layer, and practical shopping advice includes looking for border routers, checking packaging for Matter and Thread compatibility, and prioritizing Thread where possible to maximize reliability and future-proofing.
This Week in Space 216: Dark Matter Intelligence
Q: How might we communicate with alien intelligences given the vastness and diversity of potential civilizations?
We should start from as few human assumptions as possible, consider non-human modes of understanding, and be ready to interpret signals through whatever cultural technosignatures the aliens might use, while acknowledging that any actual decoding would depend on their language, tools, and context.
Hands-On Tech 272: Robocalls
Q: Big Jim asks how to handle robocalls and if there is anything that actually works beyond blocking numbers one at a time.
The host explains that blocking numbers is ineffective because scammers spoof and rotate thousands of numbers; the recommended approach is to enable network- and carrier-level protections (such as screen unknown callers on iPhone, carrier spam protections like AT&T Active Armor, Verizon Call Filter, and T-Mobile Scam Shield), and to use the built-in filtering options for messages. Engaging robocalls should be avoided, and reports to carriers and regulators help reduce the problem over time.
