Zakharia bernubuat tentang penderitaan dan kematian Gembala yang baik serta keselamatan besar yang Tuhan akan bawa kepada umat-Nya. Tuhan berjanji untuk mencurahkan Roh-Nya sehingga mereka memandang kepada Dia yang telah ditembusi.
Zakharia menyampaikan penglihatan tentang penghakiman atas dosa dan janji kedatangan Raja yang rendah hati, menunggang keldai, tetapi penuh kuasa untuk membawa kemenangan. Tuhan menunjukkan harapan akan pemulihan melalui Mesias.
Melalui penglihatan, Tuhan meneguhkan umat-Nya untuk membina kembali Bait Suci. Dia menekankan bahawa pekerjaan itu bukan dengan kekuatan manusia, tetapi oleh Roh-Nya. Tuhan menyatakan Dia akan memulihkan dan meneguhkan umat-Nya.
Nabi Hagai menegur umat kerana sibuk membina rumah sendiri sementara rumah Tuhan terbengkalai. Tuhan memanggil umat-Nya untuk memberi keutamaan kepada ibadah. Dia berjanji kemuliaan rumah-Nya akan lebih besar daripada yang dahulu.
